The Walk of Fame and the Hollywood Sign

Hollywood Boulevard is the last big stop before the drive home. Here is what you will see in about an hour, and how close you really get to the Hollywood Sign.

For most travelers, Hollywood is the reason to book. The tours give you about an hour on Hollywood Boulevard, where the Walk of Fame, the TCL Chinese Theatre and the Dolby Theatre sit within a few blocks.

The Hollywood Sign is a different story: you see it, but from a distance.

The quick answer

Every day trip includes about an hour on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which had 2,857 stars as of September 2026, next to the TCL Chinese Theatre's handprints. The Hollywood Sign is seen from the road on most tours; the six-seat and premium tours stop at a viewpoint for 15 to 20 minutes. No tour takes you up to the letters.

How long do you get on the Walk of Fame?

About an hour on the most reviewed tour, and about 90 minutes on the premium small-van tour.

That is enough to walk a few blocks of Hollywood Boulevard, see the Chinese Theatre forecourt and photograph the stars you care about most. It is not enough to visit a museum or join a separate tour.

How many stars are on the Walk of Fame?

2,857 as of September 2026, with 35 more honorees named in the class of 2026.

The stars run along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Look up a few names before you go, because the stars are not in alphabetical order and an hour goes quickly.

What is the TCL Chinese Theatre?

The 1927 movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard, famous for the celebrity handprints and footprints in its forecourt.

The forecourt is free to walk into and is right beside the Walk of Fame stop. Visitors often try their hands in a few of the prints. The Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars, is next door.

Do you see the Hollywood Sign?

Yes, but usually from far away: most tours point it out from the road, and two stop at a viewpoint.

The six-seat tour stops for about 15 minutes at a Hollywood Sign viewpoint and at the overlook above the Hollywood Bowl. The premium tour lists a 20-minute stop. The breakfast-and-lunch tour lists the Sign as a drive-by. One guest noted the distance made photos less impressive than hoped.

Can you walk up to the Hollywood Sign?

No. The sign sits on a steep hillside behind fences, and getting close to the letters is not allowed.

Hiking trails in Griffith Park lead to viewpoints behind and above it, but that takes hours and is not part of any day trip from Las Vegas. The sign was built in 1923, originally reading "Hollywoodland", and its letters are about 45 feet tall.

How do you make the most of your hour?

Pick two or three things in advance: one star, the Chinese Theatre forecourt, and a photo of the boulevard.

  • Find your star's address on the official Walk of Fame directory before the trip
  • Go to the Chinese Theatre forecourt first, while the guide is nearby
  • Agree a price before photos with costumed street performers
  • Note the meeting time and place, and be back early

Is Hollywood Boulevard worth it?

For first-timers and film fans, yes; others find it busy and touristy.

Reviews are mixed on the boulevard itself: most guests love walking the stars, while a few found Hollywood overrated compared with Santa Monica. If celebrity homes interest you more, the two-hour celebrity homes tour from Hollywood is an option if you stay a night.
